North Balga Primary School
30 Maitland Road, Balga WA 6061
Visual Art at North Balga Primary School is a thematic program, with quality children’s literature as a focus. Students from Pre-Primary to Year Six attend classes once a week, in the open, well-appointed art space. A book is read at the beginning of each lesson, with discussions linking into the activity which follows. The activities ensure students experiment with a wide range of art techniques, elements and materials, to create original artworks.
This can include kiln-fired clay pieces, textiles made using sewing machines, and various painting methods. Work is proudly displayed in the school grounds and front office, and for the wider community through our newsletter, Facebook page and website. An ongoing partnership with AWESOME Arts Creative Challenge involves classes working collaboratively with artists in residence, and displaying artwork each year in the Cultural Centre, Perth.
Each student is developing their artistic and cultural appreciation of visual arts, in both past and contemporary contexts, in a very happy room.
